Castelporziano Estate

The Presidential Estate of Castelporziano is just a few kilometers from the Hotel I Triangoli and is one of the three residences of the President of the Italian Republic: it extends from the outskirts of Rome to the coast, over an area of 60 km2.

The history of the estate

The area was born as a hunting and agricultural reserve, and in fact also includes some historic hunting estates, such as Trafusa, Trafusina, Riserve Nuove and Capocotta.

Hunting has been prohibited within the estate since 1977. The Capocotta area, a valuable natural oasis, was annexed to the area in 1985 in order to protect it from speculation.

In 1999 the area was recognized as a State Nature Reserve and later as a Site of Community Interest, assuming a protection regime according to specific criteria for the safeguarding of protected areas.

Flora and fauna

In the estate, among hundreds of hectares of holm oak, pine forest, high and low Mediterranean scrub and mixed forest that alternate with clearings and natural meadows, live different kinds of animals that roam freely such as wild boars, fallow deer, roe deer and red deer. The presence of many mammals is also noted, including the fox, the hedgehog, among the mustelids the marten, the beech marten, the skunk and the badger, among the rodents the porcupine and among the lagomorphs the Italian hare and the wild rabbit.
