Hotel I Triangoli Rome

Ostia and its beauties

Hotel I Triangoli is located less than 10 kilometers from Ostia, directly connected by Via Cristoforo Colombo: a location on the outskirts of Rome, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, rich in history and culture, but also in beaches that are crowded during the hot Roman summer and offer entertainment and fun for tourists.

Ostia Antica

At the time of Roman expansion, around 400 BC, Ostia was conquered and transformed into a fort; often called “Rome’s first colony” it was an important naval base to protect Rome from invasions coming from the river.

By 150 AD, when the Roman Empire controlled the entire Mediterranean, Ostia became an important commercial rather than military center. The size that Rome had reached made it necessary to build another port nearby (where the airport is today), but Ostia remained an essential administrative and storage centre for supporting more than a million Romans.

With the end of the Roman Empire, the port was abandoned and, over time, silted up with the Tiber retreating about a mile away. The mud that covered Ostia protected it from the ravages of time and from medieval peasants rummaging among the stones.

Ostia Beach

Recently awarded by the Touring Club for the cleanliness of its sea, Ostia is the sea of the Romans. It offers a wide variety of beaches and restaurants. Our hotel, due to its proximity to the Ostia district and its beach, is ideal in the summer for relaxing by the sea in the morning and discovering the beauty of Ancient Rome in the evening.
